Caroline Ridings is less interested in what a painting depicts than in what it can make someone feel. Her work draws from graffiti, romanticism, heroism, the street, and the mythology of fame, using those references for their existing emotional charge.
The paintings operate before language, creating tension, longing, urgency, beauty, or grief without resolving into a single meaning. The image is only the structure through which feeling enters.
